PCC, Pueblo Community Health Center partner to improve
student health care

A collaboration between Pueblo Community College and Pueblo
Community Health Center (PCHC) will provide greater healthcare options for local
community college students.

A collaboration between Pueblo Community College and Pueblo Community Health Center (PCHC) will provide greater healthcare options for local community college students.

PCC is partnering with the health center to provide services to students at PCC’s on-campus clinic. Lynne Evetts, a board-certified family nurse practitioner at PCHC, is the PCC health care provider. She will be in the clinic four days a week. The clinic also has a full-time medical assistant.
“I’ve been living in Pueblo for 19 years and believe I understand our community well,” said Evetts. “I am excited to grow the practice at PCC and offer comprehensive primary care to a population that may not have had access before.”

The Pueblo Community Health Center was founded in 1983 and operates 11 clinics in Pueblo County. Of those, five sites are school-based wellness centers located in Centennial, Central, County and East high schools and Risley International Middle School. PCHC offers comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health care as well as patient pharmacies and laboratories.

“By combining our resources and efforts, our goal is to sustain and enhance health care services available to students,” said Donald Moore, chief executive officer of PCHC. “Access to high-quality primary health care is a positive factor towards academic success and PCHC is glad to be part of the equation at PCC."
The PCC clinic opened in 2008 and is funded by student fees. Students have access to preventive care and other services at no cost or at a reduced rate. PCC employees also may utilize the clinic for a fee.

“I could not be more pleased and appreciative of this partnership – a new collaborative effort that is sure to add yet more value for our Pueblo Community College student experience,” said PCC President Patty Erjavec. “Under the auspices of Pueblo Community Health Center and Lynne Evetts, our students will be afforded comprehensive health services and additional supports to remain focused on the rigors of academic life.”
